Shock Rebuilds

I recently started rebuilding shocks as a side business and to get my wrenching fix while I am not working on a project car.

Shock rebuilds do not have a lot of clear documented repair procedures so it was a bit of an experiment but now that I have done about 10 or 15 sets it is not too bad!

Here I will write up some of the process with some images of for raptor live valve shocks. Similar to all of the others but these are the most complex ones I have come across so far.

4Runner Project

The Most recent project that I have completed is this 1988 4Runner SR5. I got it completely stock with a lot of differed maintenance as a 3.0-liter automatic.

-1985 Toyota truck front axle

-5.29 Yukon lockers

-Trail Gear SAS Kit

-Trail Gear Springs

-Softtopper

-Custom Front Drive Shaft

-Custom Sliders

-Trail Gear Bumper

-x9500 Winch

Mustang Project

This was my first car and recently went through an entire restomod. The beginning of this project was a leaking transmission front seal. The seal caused a clutch to go bad so I rebuilt the transmission. I reinstalled the transmission and after about 100 miles the second gear synchro broke in half and destroyed the original 3-speed. Rather than find a new 3-speed which was very difficult I opted to swap for a v8 and a 5-speed.

-1991 5.0 V8 and 5 Speed

-Enkei wheels

-Disc Brake Conversion

-8.8 Posi Trac rear axle

-2 inch lowering springs front and rear
